The MEP Sergei Stanishev met with Corina Cretu, nominated for Commissioner on Regional Development. Her field is important for all Member States, particularly to the countries from Eastern Europe, which are the poorest regions.
At the meeting, the future Commissioner announced her intention to help the much less economically developed countries in the Union. Cretu stressed that her efforts, if elected as Commissioner, will be aimed at supporting Member States to absorb the funding of the previous programme period, until the end of the next year, through the most effective means. The future Commissioner undertook the negotiations for the new operational programmes to be directed to the real economy and create conditions for a successful ending of the crisis in Europe.
Stanishev wished success to Cretu in the difficult task of working on the reduction of economic disparities between the regions in Europe.
