During the plenary session in Strasburg, the MEP Sergei Stanishev met with Vytenis Andriukaitis, Commissioner on Health & Food Safety.
Andriukaitis’s portfolio is of particular importance for the socialist family, as the healthcare in Europe is based on solidarity principles. Stanishev noted that, as health minister in Lithuania, Andriukaitis has done a lot towards equal rights and access to health care for the citizens. The MEP expressed his confidence that the Commissioner will continue to work on improving the healthcare system on European level as well. Stanishev stressed that on request from the Group of Socialists & Democrats the pharmaceutical industry will be part of the field of Andriukaitis and that “This is an important sign for our family and you will be a guarantee for introduction of transparency in the sector.”
During the meeting, Stanishev raised the question for the Bulgarian E-Healthcare. “Minister Tanya Andreeva developed a project for E-Healthcare based on the Estonian model, which is currently frozen. I will count on your help for the Commission to push for the sooner introduction of E-Healthcare in Bulgaria. This is of particular importance in order to achieve transparency in the spending of public funds for health”, каза Станишев.
The MEP congratulated Andriukaitis for his highly expert representation at the hearings, and wished him success in the development of stable and transparent health system in Europe.
